Motortechnisches SeminarRWTH Aachen | VKA
In the "Engine Technology Seminar" event series, experts from the engine and automotive industry hold lectures on current problems in engine development as well as interdisciplinary topics. After each lecture the audience has the opportunity to talk with the speakers.
The engine technology seminar is free of charge and open to all interested individuals.
You can find possible program changes and additional information at the Institute for Combustion Engines.
Please make note of the parking regulations at RWTH Aachen. University parking spots are exclusively reserved for university members with a corresponding parking permit. You can find public parking spots and parking garages at APAG.

General Information regarding "Motortechnisches Seminar"
Besides the substantial procurement of fundamental knowledge education VKA emphasizes practical experience. Therefore the academic program has been extended by the "Motortechnisches Seminar" in the 1970s. In winter term 1973/1974 it started under direction of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jürgen Helling from the "Institute of Automotive Engineering" (IKA) and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Franz Pischinger from the "Institute for Thermodynamics" (LAT). After Prof. Franz Pischinger's retirement and the institute was renamed "Institute for Combustion Engines" the new head of the institute Prof. Dr.-Ing. Stefan Pischinger resumed administration of "Motortechnisches Seminar".
Objective of this event is to support the connection between university-science and practical experience. Therefore renowned personalities from engine and automotive industry are invited to give presentations concerning current technical challenges.
A special highlight was Dr.-Ing. h.c. Felix Wankel's lecture concerning "Marksteine bei der Entwicklung des Rotationskolbenmotors" in summer term 1983.
Some years later former Renault F1 Team's head of Engine Experts & Calculation and brand-new Formula 1 - World Champion Dr.-Ing. Albert Haas reported about the development of a F1 engine in his presentation "Einblick in die Entwicklung des Renault-F1-Motors.
Generally ongoing developments in automotive industry are presented and discussed. For example Dipl.-Ing. Gerald Killmann, Toyota Europe, gave a lecture on "Entwicklung des Prius Hybridantriebs“ in summer term 2005 and Dr.-Ing. Horst Schulte, Ford Forschungszentrum Aachen on "Zukünftige Antriebssysteme für PKW und leichte Nutzfahrzeuge“ in winter term 2005/2006.
Last semester (WS 08/09) one of the lecturer was Prof.-Dr. Martin Winter from "Institut für physikalische Chemie" of University Münster and gave his presentation concerning "Elektromobilität mit Lithium-Ionen-Batterien – Chancen und Herausforderungen" (Picture on the right with Prof.-Dr. Pischinger).
